Engagement Strategy for Political Transition Roundtables

The 2014 elections are a key turning point in Afghan history, taking place in the challenging context of the withdrawal of the international military forces.  The Political Transition roundtables are a series of discussions aimed at identifying the most pressing issues at the local and national levels to better understand the context of the elections. In order to inform the roundtables ATR designed a comprehensive local engagement strategy aimed at; identifying lessons learned, reviewing the content of local radio discussions conducted to date for the US Embassy to identify emerging themes, and reviewing key research documents on local understanding of national representative democracy.  The culmination of the research will identify local issues, local power dynamics, key strategic locations and other key issues to inform the design of the Roundtables.
